Review of Broken Flowers (2005) by Peter M — 31 Jan 2011
A lot of people don't seem to respond to the way Jarmusch has been taking his more recent films, but I can say that I really enjoyed this one. The film follows a man, Don, passive aggressively trying to find a meaning to his unfulfilling life. The film is a journey that very subtly grows along side with Don. The thing about Don is that his growth is so subtle that it could leave the viewer with an unpleasant taste about the film.
What I got out Don's slow exposure was that the end of the film isn't the end, the end of the film is where Don finally realizes his desire for what he was looking for. He gets a hint of it at the end and in those final moments is where you get the character development that is so obvious in many other films.
I liked this movie a lot. I would recommend it but I get the feeling that many people won't enjoy the journey that Bill and Jim take us on.
