Review of Broken Flowers (2005) by Dalton N — 01 Apr 2012
On the cusp of being just as good as Lost In Translation, but definately one of Murray's best films, and certainly one of his sincere performances. The story is light on plot, which is perhaps this films strongest point, it isn't bogged down with too much filler, it is filler.
Most films are "The ends justify the means" but with Broken Flowers, the "means" are what keeps it interesting. This film doesnt have an ending that would satisfy most audiences, however I saw the ending as a big thank you from Jarmusch.
He didn't lie to us with some overblown and pretentious fake ending where everything works out, we walk away with a feeling of reality and open ended concept that comes off great.
