Review of Broken English: Three Songs by Marianne Faithfull (1979) by Palina P — 14 Jun 2008
It's one of the rare films where you see a Frenchman's charm without him seeming totally sleazy (je vous aime, mais j'ai raison), and that counts for a lot. It's very well-acted, but the minor characters are underdeveloped, a lot of the implications are too vague (or maybe I'm reading too much in to assume they're implications at all), and the story beats are heavy-handed.
Also, Nora seems to encounter an unreasonable preponderance of Frenchies who speak unreasonably good English (je vous aime, mais j'ai toujours raison). Still, it's a reasonably good first outing.
