Review of Broken English (2007) by Milena R — 16 Aug 2008
I liked seeing Parker Posey in a different role than what we see her in Christopher Guest films. She wasn't making crazy jokes or going on with her usual antics.
Posey plays Nora and captures that great cynicism that many of us feel about love. After a run of bad luck in the life and love departments and seeing everyone else around her 'happy' in love, she decides to change how she approaches things. After some bad dates she meets Julien and falls for him, but he is returning to France in a few days, so they make the most of their time together. Figuring what else can go wrong, she goes to France to find him.
I related to her probably more than I would have liked, but that is what made this movie enjoyable for me. As much as I don't feel is all the time, I know that what they say is true about love and happiness. You must find it first within yourself before you can share it with others. Very enjoyable.
