Review of Broken English (2007) by Joy A — 02 Apr 2008
I've only seen one John Cassavetes film, but I liked it well enough to see if some of his talents rubbed off on his daughter. Well, some did, some didn't. Let me get the negative out of the way: the script was awful at times.
Some of the lines came across as funny, but it was very obvious they were supposed to be serious, making for awkwardly, bad-acted moments. In addition, too many of the characters were included only to give the main character advice, which felt very forced.
However, through it all, there were some real tender moments. It seems that Zoe Cassavetes has potential; she just has to work out the kinks.
