Review of Broken Embraces (2009) by Quinto W — 13 Jan 2010
I don't understand why Almodovar sets up a character and a premise around that character if once they start developing it he will completely forget about it and then change the focus to an out-of-the-blue love triangle involving Penelope Cruz; but it was probably the best thing to do since Ruben Ochandiano was way too campy, though not a great idea because we are just left with unanswered questions and unengaging characters.
I did love how Almodovar remakes his own Mujeres al Borde de un Ataque de Nervios as the film within the film.
