Broken Embraces is a lesser Almodovar with an overcooked plot involving an ex-director who we see in flashback 14 years earlier making a film (with scenes based on Almodovarâ??s 1988 Women on the Verge) starring the gorgeous Penelope Cruz.
Broken Embraces is typically exuberant Almodovar, but the film appears long and is overly complicated. 3 Stars.
