Review of Broken Embraces (2009) by Jim M — 30 Dec 2009
Almodoar continues his examination of the male identity, following La Mala Educacion and Habla Con Ella. This can be viewed as step toward a full-scale opus such as Academy award winning Todo Sobre Mi Madre.
Maybe this is why so many people find it "flat" in comparision. Almodovar always said that he had more emotional range with his amplified female characters. Its still a great study of male emotion and being immersed in his hypercoloured world is always a treat! Go see it, if only for that!
