Review of Broken Embraces (2009) by Chris M — 26 Jan 2010
Somewhat disappointing film that never quite rises to the heights of Almodovar's usual excellence. I think what's mainly missing is the wackiness he brought to films like Live Flesh and All About My Mother.
You get the briefest of tastes of this at the very end when we finally see the a full scene from the film-within-a-film, but other wise the film seems flat despite the always-radiant presence of Penelope Cruz.
