Review of Broken Embraces (2009) by Constance B — 07 Feb 2010
Once again Almodovar keeps your eyes glued and mind guessing with this multi-layered film about filmmaking. In order to face the present, a blind filmmaker must recount the past to properly bring closure to a relationship and film, no matter what it takes.
Saying more will ruin the twisted surprises Almodovar is known for, but I can say that it is a passionate love story with equal parts of humor and tragedy. One thing that is evident is how Almodovar reflects himself in this film, a director known for revisiting similar stories and themes, always improving.
Certainly recommended for Almodovar fans and those looking for something out of the ordinary.
