Review of Broken Embraces (2009) by Phillip J — 14 Feb 2010
If you opened my email to find my review, you're not getting one he, he, he...I need to see it again.
Almodóvar's movies just demand it. Each time I see his film I discover new levels, meanings, brilliant details and fascinating references. But itâ??s hard to get that when Iâ??m busy with the plot. To me he is a master of the highest rank. I cannot judge until Iâ??m sure I didn't miss something.
When I was closing my eyes last night I couldnâ??t seem to put this film in a genre â?? was it romantic, comedy, suspensefulâ?¦All I remember were the close ups of Penélope Cruz' and her red shoes when sheâ??s leaving Ernesto. How about the voluptuous apples from the gigantic painting in Ernesto's dining room? the shot when Lena's tear drops on the tomato she is cutting for gazpacho was just breathtaking,.
Anyway, I canâ??t judge unless I see it a few more times. Perhaps when itâ??s on Netflix.
So review to follow after a few more views.
