Review of Broken Embraces (2009) by Sunil J — 24 Mar 2010
Just finished watching this film, which stars Almodovar's muse Penelope Cruz. I've seen several films starring Penelope Cruz and I have to say she's one of the best actresses we have right now.
I loved her performance in Volver (another Almodovar film), Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Nine. In most of her recent films (including this one) she embodies a sense of mystery that holds you bewitched.
The film combines scenes from the present and the past (1994). Through Alomodovar's slow-paced style of story telling, the development of the story is very subtle yet seamless and effective because its what keeps the viewer transfixed to this film.
