Review of Broken Embraces (2009) by Philip H — 22 Apr 2010
The most recent of the Pedro Almodovar films is the most visually arresting. this time, Almodovar serves up a love story, the conventional kind, but of course, in a manner only he could manage. romance is the favorite topic of just about everything and it is indeed a challenge to come up with a unique twist to love stories.
almost everyone fails to make something artful about love these days. i'd say Almodovar is on a roll because by the time penelope cruz opens the door in the final scene, you'd be begging to know what happened next.
