Review of Broken Embraces (2009) by Paul P — 14 Jul 2010
Intriguing and tragic, Almodovar brings out the best in Cruz and co once again.
The story told in flashback brings together the lives of a powerful businessman, an actress and a director and as the story progresses, it becomes more engrossing and beautiful to watch.
Visually, the film is gorgeous to take in and the lovely soundtrack adds so much to the proceedings. Cast wise, everyone carries their weight, especially Bianca Portillo who's largely untold story is every bit as compelling as the main story. Up front, Cruz is terrific and Almodovar catches her beauty in ways that most other directors just can't manage.
Gorgeous film making.....
