Review of Broken City (2013) by Ben L — 05 Apr 2013
A script written with a surprising amount of witty dialogue even if the story did not. It didn't go as far as I thought it would with the initial premise. The story was filled with nothing new and seemed to be a bit muddled, at some points I just sort of went 'what' because of what I was watching on screen.
Everything else, however, was perfectly fine. It was well acted, featured a slight political insight, real detective work, characters with development and actual decisions to be made, the action scenes were well staged and Russell Crowe just looked awesome; with the hair, the suit, his intimidating demeanor, Hostetler was just a cool character.
I understand where the negative reviews are coming from, and it's a pretty 'eh' entry in this genre (another film with Crowe would be considered one of the best) but there is not any harm in watching it one time for a bit of entertainment, I can't see myself watching it again anytime soon.
