Review of Broken City (2013) by Michael L — 29 Jun 2013
BROKEN CITY starts out really super! A modern noir that captures the magnificence, brutality, and corruption of NYC. For at least it's first hour, BROKEN CITY totally captured me through complex characterization from a perfect cast and dozens of noir subplots that make the film engrossing.
But then something happens. It's as if the filmmakers lost all interest. Subplots just disappear, subtlety is thrown to the wind, and those great characters leave the screen. Ultimately, BROKEN CITY is just a big poorly made bore.
Clearly hacked to bits in the editing room, BROKEN CITY is a broken film. A real waste of so much talent.
