Review of Broken City (2013) by Gerry L — 31 Jan 2013
Broken City is the kind of movie that you can leave the room for a few minutes, walk back in and not really miss anything. It's the kind of movie that you catch yourself looking at the clock on your cell phone wondering how much is left.
It's not because of bad acting, it's just not that interesting. I like Mark e Mark, and I also like Javert, but even in the role of broken ex-cop (Wahlberg) and corrupt mayor (Crowe) they aren't all that interesting.
It's a decent enough story, but the plot turns are seen from a long way away, and the few attempts at humor just fall flat. At least there is a true justice ending for all the characters, and no heart warming/feel good wrap it up in a bow tie type of thing.
Is it worth watching? Maybe while you are doing the dishes or folding laundry as it's ok at best. Otherwise, only if there isn't anything else in the theater or in the Redbox.
