Review of Broken Arrow (1996) by Paul P — 22 Nov 2008
Watching this again recently has made me question whether John Woo is as great a director as we have been led to believe. Sure it looks great but it is so generic. The story is stupid, the dialogue and acting for the most part is awful and it's left to Travolta to try and pump some life into this thing.... Which he does, hence 3 stars.
Given free reign, the guy is hilarious. His delivery of the dialogue is just awesome, especially his repeated request to his cronies to "please stop firing at the thermo nuclear device"... Genius... He also finds time to display a record number of exagerated methods for smoking a cigarette.... Again, genius... Also, we get the added bonus of a quasi wild west soundtrack that plays continuously throughout the film that makes me grin everytime I hear it....
Not a good film by any means, but Travolta's work here makes this a blast to watch....
