Review of Broken (2012) by Jesse O — 28 Feb 2014
Emotional, but surprizingly funny film when it needs a lift. This is a typical British film for me. Dark, bleak, down to earth. Well shot - this is superb visual storytelling.
"This is England" and "Fish Tank" naturally comes to mind, to name a few in the same league.
One of this film's best features are the great acting that's all over the line. Eloise Laurence, the lead, at least for me she is, is amazing on screen. Roth is also a highlight but everyone with screentime makes this a very beliveable piece, great work!
Another feature is the very good editing that I especially felt near the end. Super color tones and some neat music filled scenes get's the right atmosphere and everything is in place for that rollercoaster ride of emotions that this really is.
This film is raw but sensitive and fittingly so. This is for all drama lovers, or every movie lover actually. Nothing weird, nothing too fancy - just straight forward quality.
A great debut, just brilliant!
8.5 out of 10 breaths of goodness.
