Review of Brokeback Mountain (2005) by Anthony O — 08 Mar 2012
This cinematic masterpiece accomplishes so many things at once, but with subtlety and fluidity. Characters are inherently complex and interact in a multifaceted manner. In addition, the cinematography displays the love and despair of Jack and Ennis' affair in the Wyoming landscape.
Oh, yeah, Gustavo Santaolalla? I don't think any other composer could tear at our hearts more than he can with the tragic guitar chords of "Brokeback Mountain 1". While we tip our heads to Lee for his mastery in cinema, the justice he does to the gay community through themes of forbidden love and suppressed identity ensures that this film will go down in history as one of the greatest love tragedies .
