Review of Broadway Melody of 1940 (1940) by Lorianne R — 04 Mar 2006
One of my favourite old time musicals ever. Okay, so Eleanor Powell is almost too strong a dancer to be properly partnered with anyone, and Astaire definitely had way more chemistry with Rogers and Hayworth ... but the musical numbers they share are electrifying, with Astaire and Hayworth's Shorty George the only other number I can compare.
And Eleanor Powell simply IS the queen of dance - she could do anything!
*ahem* I also love the cute, romantic plot, and George Murphy is sufficiently hateable (I never could make myself like him), and the ending is sufficiently satisfying.
