Review of Broadway Danny Rose (1984) by David M — 29 May 2008
While not one of Woody Allen's classics, still a decent entry into an already impressive library. Allen may have died down since his 'Bananas' days by this point, but he shows once again that he can be just as poignant, just as effective at conveying emotions in a screwball setting.
Allen himself is notable in the title roll. Yes, it's his standard Woody Allen persona, but it works so well in the character of an enthusiastic but always unlucky talent manager. His dialog with Farrow is entertaining and always (when told that her dead Mafioso husband, who was shot in the face, was always worried that "they'd get him from behind," Allen replies awkwardly, "Well, he was wrong .
. .").
