It has a funny, sweet, and observational tone that, for the most part, is engaging enough to sustain itself through a film that doesn't have much of a plot. The performances are all first rate and I like the notion of exploring the different types of personalities that succeed in just about any environment.

The epilogue is very problematic (which is unfortunately a common occurrence with James L. Brooks films). In the preceding scenes each of the characters calls the other one out for what they see as their major flaw.

The final scene, where everyone is reunited, feels forced and doesn't make much sense.
