Review of Bringing Up Baby (1938) by Chris B — 05 Feb 2008
This is my favourite movie, much to my wife's chagrin. It is the ultimate screwball comedy with the ultimate batle of the sexes between free-spirit Susan Vance (Katharine Hepburn) and stuffed-shirt serious Dr.
David Huxley (Cary Grant). The film begins with a hilarious interaction between Susan and David on a golf course with Susan stealing David's car. They soon meeta gain at restaurant where Susan is learning the art of catching peanuts in her mouth and having David steal someone's purse (by mistake).
That's no the end of the mshaps and misunderstanding that lead to David and Susdan searching for buried bones and lost leopards. Some people view Hepburn as annoying but her character's role in opening up David's eyees to the real world is the key to their romance and to understanding and enjoying this great film.
