Review of Bringing Up Baby (1938) by Juan M — 03 May 2009
A surrealist comedy before anyone ever thought of such a thing. Crazy and lunatic, with Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn at the peak of their powers. This film was a box office bomb and actually got Hepburn labeled box office poison until her triumphant comeback (with Grant again) in The Philadelphia Story.
Bringing Up Baby stands the test of time: a ditzy heiress, an absent minded proffessor, a fugitive leopard, dinosaur skeletons, Revolving Door Suzy. It's as crazily funny today as it must have been back then, which is saying something.
