Review of Bringing Up Baby (1938) by Jennifer M — 27 Apr 2013
A stuffy paleontologist (Cary Grant) meets cute with a manic pixie dream girl (Katherine Hepburn). Through a bizarre string of circumstances, he's forced into helping her escort her pet leopard to a wealthy aunt's manor in Connecticut.
The plot contrivances of Bringing Up Baby are absurd, but the movie is having so much fun with itself that most viewers won't care. Hepburn and Grant are both delightful and, as ever, Howard Hawks' keen direction allows plenty of room for snappy repartee.
It's not quite as masterful as His Girl Friday, but it comes pretty close.
