Review of Bringing Up Baby (1938) by J D — 06 Apr 2008
Oh my god. Rare. A rare comedy. Screwball and serious, but so heavy in wacky, zzzzany mischief over something so beside the point. I could not think of a better way to get to know, and come to be too tired to avoid falling in love with someone than the encounter portrayed here.
It's a beautiful journey through insanity. Quite a remarkable and original one at that. Lines come whipping out like freight trains. Unencumbered comedy, stripped down delinquency, disaster and joyfulness.
Also, a lot of running, then running back where you came from. Who knows what the purpose is. WOW!
