Review of Bringing Up Baby (1938) by Daren F — 30 Aug 2008
Hepburn and Grant star in the forerunner to the great screwball comedies to come and few reach this level of brilliance. Grant is to be married (he is a zoologist) and Hepburn loves him so she does whatever she can to stop the wedding.
This all leads to a series of unfortunate events for Grant, a leopard, messing up an interview, more leopards it is all quite awful for him (great fun for us and Hepburn). The energy in the performances is crazy and the film is really a non stop ride, to bad it ruined Hepburn's career until 3 years later with Philadelphia Story, and got the director fired from RKO.
The film decidedly has flaws but they are made up for with amazing performances and a fun story line.
