Review of Bringing Up Baby (1938) by Christopher S — 13 Apr 2011
Funny film that showcases the great chemistry between Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn. Great love story. The leopard Baby was also very good and definitely made this film zanier. The pacing of the film was very good and the direction by Howard Hawks was excellent.
Hawks is definitely one of the most underrated directors of all time and Bringing Up Baby might be his magnum opus. While Kate Hepburn was definitely born to play a comedic and zany actress she portrayed here (Susan Vance), I am a bit skeptical about Cary Grant as the straight laced David Huxley.
I always picture Grant as the characters he portrayed in Hitchcock films. Still, he did well here. Great film which has stood the test of time.
