Review of Bringing Out the Dead (1999) by Tony's F — 01 Sep 2010
Bringing out the dead is another Martin Scorsese Masterpiece, Its very-Dark, Compelling, Interesting, Beautiful and also hard to watch at some Point. The atmospheric direction Scorsese shows us in this film is spectacular.
Nicolas Cage is ( Frank ), and he is a Paramedic, he works the GraveYard shift in a very broke-down and Un-happy City and he never seems to have any Time off from being a Paramedic because there is always a call one after another. As he Roams the city-Streets he often starts to see visions of People that he couldnt save in the past, and the one person he keeps seeing is a Young 17 year old street girl I think, that he couldnt save.
( Frank ) gets called to Jobs that I dont think any Paramedic likes getting called to, and these are the " Drug-Overdose, Violence, Heart-problems, Homeless People, and Alcoholism calls, and every time he arrives to them he continues to see visions of the People that he couldnt save in the past.
( Frank ) than gets a call one night to a Old-man that is having heart trouble, and when he arrives he is greeted by The old-mans family and his daughter which is played by (Patricia Arquette), at first ( Frank ) thought that the old-man may already have passed away, but than Frank asks ( Patricia Arquette ) to put on a song that is her Dad's faviourite, and she does that, and You wouldnt believe it, the Song actually brought signs of life to the Father and he was breathing again.
The Old-Man was rushed to the hospital, and ( Patricia ) and family followed in theire car. After a couple Hours, the Doc than told the Family that he was doing well. As a couple days went on, Frank and Patricia started to talk to each other, had Some dinner together, and become Closer. Frank was right beside her the whole time, as she never left the hospital because she was so worried about her Dad, but thing that really annoyed her is that, one day the doc would say her dad is getting better but than the next day He wasnt doing so well.
A week or two went on and ( Frank ) was still working the GraveShift, never eating but drinking loads of Coffee. He than started to see more Visions of the Dead People that he couldnt save, and it actually starts to drive him crazy. Ill leave it at that I wont talk anymore about what actually happens after all these Episodes, or what happens between Frank, The Father or ( Patricia ). You will just have to watch the film Youreselves.
The ending of this Film is Amazing, I wont say what happens but the Outcome is wonderfull, it is a true Masterpiece from Martin Scorsese. Some viewers might find it hard to watch, just because it is a very dark Drama, but that is what it is supposed to be., Its a Psychological Drama that surrounds the life of One Man, that Practically is going through hell all the time and just simply needs to sit-back, relax, and take a break from everything that is happening in his life.
RATING- 4 out of 4.
