Review of Bringing Out the Dead (1999) by Ed Q — 20 Jan 2008
The hyperkinetic editing and stylized photography transform Hell's Kitchen into a literal manifestation of the hell that exists within the mind of the protagonist. Cage gives a great performance as a paramedic trying desperately to find some form of spiritual catharsis.
Scorsese's film is deeply philosophical, darkly comic and masterfully composed.
