Review of Bringing Out the Dead (1999) by Benjamin X — 13 Jun 2009
The emotional redemption Frank is looking for occurs, but there is no point at which I really felt it. In a movie that speaks to the emotional and psychological pressure that is created by a senseless and chaotic world, it is important to lead from that very real problem to some form of solution or catharsis (yes!), but if it happens I toootally missed it. Also I felt like Scorcese just went crazy with the time-lapse montages here, which is saying a lot if you know how crazy I get over time-lapse montages.
Anyway, if for the poetry-in-motion/Ode to New York/lights flickering in the darkness thing alone, I highly recommend Bringing Out the Dead.
