Review of Bringing Out the Dead (1999) by Tim W — 25 Jan 2010
This is a very darkly poignant, lively and often funny movie of a day in the life of a New York City ambulance driver. Nicholas Cage plays Frank Pierce, a stressed out on the a verge of a nervous brake down ambulance driver who deals with all the gangmembers, homeless, drug addicts, and fringe people of NYC on a daily bases.
In his work he is often pared with colorful, and sometimes very funny partners like laid back John Goodman, explosive Tom Sizemore, and best of all, black Baptist raised Ving Rhames. From Ving's character, "Did I ever tell you about the time that white woman approached me, I said 'Ma'am, I'm a true cocksman and I don't mix my seed.
' Any time you see me with a white woman is when I'm holding her for the police." There is also an amazing soundtrack with the Clash, REM, 10,000 maniacs, and Janis Japlin. This is one of those movies that gets better with each viewing.
