Review of Bringing Out the Dead (1999) by River W — 07 Nov 2010
This is not the coming to terms drama I was expecting. It's like the writers decided to do an action movie with as many flashing bright lights as they could, and went for the NY medic dark-comedy. This movie never stops it's frantic pace and hypnotizing havoc.
It's darkly fun for the most part, with a sidelined story of a ghost-girl our paramedic couldn't save making up for... something... Patricia Arquette plays the somber role dealing with death, holding on, and her past.
It doesn't linger on her much, rather it follows the insane night shift paramedics screening calls and looking for good ol' bloody action. It's smart about it's subjects, as ridiculous as they may be.
This is a very unique film that is fast, fun, smart, and ultimately touching.
