Warren Oates is the balls. No actor could have pulled this off better. It was almost about Peckinpah himself so who better to headline it than someone who had been in most of his movies(maybe Ben Johnson was in more, I'm not sure.
) Plus it ended the way all great Peckinpah movies did, in a blizzard of machinegun bullets.
