Review of Bring It On (2000) by Jose M — 08 May 2012
Bring it on, okay this was not a horrible film as I thought it would be. I found it refreshing and fun in a subject that I would hesitate to watch. This is because of tight writing and wonderful cast and cheerful performances from Kristen Dunst, Elisha Dushku, and others.
I also must note Peyton Reed since he hints a liking to cheerleader-exploitation films from the 70s and 80s. Not that it was the deciding factor for my rating and review. The film has Kristen as young naïve cheerleader who is voted as the captain for upcoming competition, but her world is shattered when she discovers that her team has been stealing moves from Dominguez Hill high school.
This puts her in a tough spot as she and the new recruit (Dushku) must convince the other girls that they will have to become original when it comes to cheer moves. I dreaded watching Bring it on, but by miracle the writing, cast, and director manage to bring forth a pleasant film and have some pretty cool music.
I recommend Bring It On if you have not hate towards cheerleaders.
