Review of Brighton Rock (2010) by Ashton S — 29 Jun 2011
Moving the action from the 30s to the 60's and a Mods and Rockers back-drop is a bold move, that on some levels works well (the seaside brawl and a money shot of the scooters riding through the town centre) but on other levels doesn't work at all, Pinkie (Sam Riley) - the films anti-hero, makes for suitably uncomfortable viewing and there is a good supporting cast including Phil Davies, Andy Sirkis, John Hurt and Helen Mirren, although some may find mousy Rose, played by Andrea Risenorough, a little too wet at times.
Nowhere near as good as Dickie Attenborough version, but still worth a watch none the less.
