Review of Bright Star (2009) by Mike L — 09 Jan 2010
This movie is appalling, it?s in the group of "the worst movies I have ever seen" (and that includes some dreadful films e.g. Lantana).
What directors need to remember is that at the end of the day there is no substitute for a story, filming making is ultimately about story telling, this film has wonderful costumes yes, some interesting period detail yes but its not enough, the director would have been well advised to spend some money on a screenwriter and a good one, as the storyline here is very weak, as a narrative piece of film making it is almost embarrassing at times.
The performance of the actor Abby Cornish is decent; however the extremely irritating "man jealousy" cameo that goes on (and on) through the movie between Keats and his ?sponsor? completely wrecks the viewer?s capacity to enjoy Cornish?s performance.
2/10, dreadful.
