Unlike her "The Piano" Jane Campion's "Bright Star" lacks engaging elements and cast chemistry! Despite being based on a true historic love story of a true poet. The lack of chemistry is especially tangible when the beautiful soundtrack fails to find a compatible slot and becomes overwhelming in the romantic scenes! The beautiful Abbie Cornish offers a lot of passion which is sadly unanswered by Ben Whishaw mundane stage-like performance, he basically repeats his role in "The Perfume", though with lines.
One can sense that he has played one costume drama too many!
