Review of Bright Star (2009) by Mada M — 04 Feb 2010
I've been in love with keats since I first read his words long ago. this beautiful, naturally lit film, which contrasts the frantic pace of life lived by keats, who always believed he was doomed, with the slow, socially enforced modesty and quiet of the poor but genteel fanny brawne and her family.
jane campion is as subtle and sympathetic as always. she truly understands her subjects and their time, and it shows. there are moments of pure beauty and ecstasy here, and a lovely gentleness - all reminiscent of a certain poet I could mention.
