Review of Bright Star (2009) by Mark D — 22 Mar 2010
The story of Fanny Brawne, who I guess was the influence for Keats poem Bright Star. I found it to be a bit slow moving, but Abbie Cornish is so great as Fanny that I didn't care that much. I wonder why she wasn't nominated for this. Too much under the radar perhaps.
Fanny is a very strong-willed woman in a time when that wasn't the norm.
Keats is an unsuccessful poet, and has no money.
The fellow who played Keats was serviceable, but seemed meek compared to her(intended?).
I loved the look of the movie, and the settings were quite beautiful.
All told, this was a simple story with an ending most should already be aware of. A great performance by Abbie makes it better than it really is.
