Review of Bright Star (2009) by Ana B — 22 Jun 2010
Poetic and historic movie about the love affair of romantic poet John Keats and his inspiration and girl next door Fanny Brawne. The movie is very much focused in Fanny, her talent as a seamstress, her feelings for Keats, her suffering, and her antagonism with John's friend and supporter Mr. Brown. She is, at the end of the day, Bright Star.
The movie starts very slowly and picks up a little bit later when the story becomes more dramatic and even tragic. Cinematographically the film is beautiful, but there are a few unexplained features in the plot that makes it a bit difficult to follow, like Mr. Brown paying for all the Keats bills or the fact that Fanny seems to go unchaperoned most of the times; in general, the relationships between all the characters are complex and their motives a little obscure for the viewer.
