Review of Bright Star (2009) by Dinuksher W — 06 Jul 2010
Biopics are always traps for the naive film goer...thankfully Jane Campion saves us the pains of discovering the romantic idol of our adolescence reduced to a whimpering dud on the big screen. Fanny drives the film as the heroin and Keats is the elusive goal.
Casting is not as bad as it usually gets. It is exquisitely shot and brilliantly scored...but can't help feeling that Campion's hobby-horse theme of socially restrained womanhood is losing steam.
