Review of Bright Star (2009) by Jiana W — 18 Jun 2012
Pretty good. Ben Whishaw is really adorable in this. He's just small and fragile-looking. There's some good acting, although some scenes feel a bit melodramatic. The titular poem, "Bright Star", is incredibly beautiful and I'm glad it is recited a couple of times through the movie.
The romance between the two characters is innocent and sweet. That this is based on a true story should revive any cynic's disbelief in the concept of true love. I'd say it is a "tragic fairytale"-- although the story doesn't end well the love shared between the two main characters is one that people dream about.
