Review of Bright Star (2009) by Lucia H — 21 Jun 2012
A truly elegant film, filming the countryside in such a lyrical manner that it simply astonished me to see the seasons change. Campion has a masterpiece here. Such wonderful scenes of early 19-century life in England! Christmas Dinner alone was full of so many period details, games at the table, entertainment by guests, the beautiful sound of a men's choir, so many amusements we have forgotten about.
"Bright Star" is love story handled with both delicacy and passion, totally believable. Heartbreaking in the last third. I wept. Some may find it slow at points, but I savored every minute.
