Review of Bright Future (2003) by Mattias E — 31 Dec 2008
Top actors Odagiri Joe and Asano Tadanobu in a thoroughly confusing movie packed with symbolism. Obviously meant for a smaller festival crowd this one, in contrast to director Kurosawa's genre-output which often aims for a larger audience.
Bright Future doesn't lack beautiful and touching moments, but as it turns out it's just a bit too uncompromising. I'd like to see Kurosawa land somewhere in between two extremes some time.
I might be talking about Tokyo Sonata here...
