I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! This is the type of movie you watch, not knowing what ride you are going in on, but the curiosity of trying to figure out where this movie is going kept me glued. What I've realized is all the complaints about not knowing the back story or the message it's trying to covey actually KILLS a movie to a certain degree --at least it's something I've realized over time.
Take it for what it is, entertainment and fantasy. Yes, it has messages and themes about how society is now, told in a blend of fantasy, mythology and medievalism in present day, with probably a hint of religion and about life in general.
Just go for the ride and enjoy and don't worry so much about how or what this alternate universe is or why it came about. Just enjoy it ....
