Review of Bright (2017) by Peter D — 07 Mar 2018
I absolutely loved it! First movie I've ever seen showing elves and orcs in a setting that's not relatable to the middle-ages. it is revolutionary in that it takes the race issue and unites humans of different skin tones as one species, below the perfect elves, and above the misunderstood orcs. Showing prejudice stemming entirely from a time of war instigated by an unknown Dark Lord centuries ago, a jab at people who complain about American slavery despite not being a slave nor having ever met someone who was a slave or those who compare modern Germans (people) to Nazis (members of an extinct political faction).
The movie carries on at a nice pace and quickly ditches Ward's family life to make room for the fantasy/reality mosh pit we're all here to see. You cannot help but take an instant liking to Jacoby as he struggles to gain respect from both his human counter-parts in the law and his own people, his awkwardness alone makes him likable and his perseverance makes him lovable. he makes the movie.
In conclusion, Bright introduces us to a world like no other and leaves us FASCINATED, curious as to what other wonders are to be found in this world and the looming threat of a Dark Lord's return.
