Review of Bright (2017) by Matt B — 22 May 2018
I don't know why people on this site get so offended by movies. Bright is fun to watch and never pretends to be what it isn't. It throws you into a world where you infer the history without dragged out exposition.
The moments of corniness are true to both fantasy tropes and bad cop tropes, but when the two are tied together it plays out in a cool way. Will Smith is Will Smith and performs as you would assume. Yes, this isn't a masterfully planned indie slow burn, but it never tries to convince the audience it's more than a shiny fantasy-bad cop mash-up.
