Review of Bright (2017) by Arth%20 J — 13 Jan 2018
I'm astounded by the generally awful critical reviews. It's funny when it should be - it's a bit moving if you've had a glass of wine or you still have a touch of heart left in you after 1000 movies, and it has a coherent story with action that is quick and crafty and never too long.
Yes, it's Will Smith doing his best "Will Smith" but there's a touch of irony to it in the first half that you can't miss, along with the quite transparent commentary on race-relations that somehow still comes off as fun and biting without being overly-wanky. Noomi Rapace is fun as the villian, and the villians kick quite a lot of ass.
One thing I can definitely say is that, there are no 2 consecutive minutes of this entire movie that I would say were a waste of time and could have been edited differently, and that is probably one of my heartiest compliments. And for a 90-minute movie, it feels longer, in a GOOD WAY, where you actually connect with the main characters and understand the bizarre setting.
There's definitely something rotten going on with the critics reviews when there's a 50% discrepancy between reviewer and audience score.
